Okay so there are a few of these but here are the two most important ones.

A Balance of Secrets (Balance for short).

This is a fantasy story that was inspired by the Bruno Mars song Natalie. Trust me when I say that the actual song and my novel are worlds apart. However, I was listening to it when one line, in particular, jumped out at me. It mentions sitting in a jail cell and the first scene in Balance was born, fully complete in my mind.

The story itself is about two worlds, one forgotten and the delicate balance between the two.

The worlds co-exist but the main one has completely forgotten the more ethereal one (it has magic, elves and other fabulous beings in it), and consequently, things are out of order and in trying to right it, certain beings have only made it worse.

This is the manuscript I plan to take to a masterclass with Fiona McIntosh in 2018. I have edited it a few times, but armed with new knowledge I plan to tackle it again this year.

UPDATE: After taking it to Fiona’s Masterclass I’ve put Balance on hold and now focusing on Rosie.

Rosie

This is only a tentative title and is a historical fantasy set in 14th century England just before the outbreak of the Black Death. I’m in the first draft/research stage of this one and somehow I’m combining the Black Death, the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London. The latter two events occurred in the 1600s, so I’m not entirely sure how they are connected yet. Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

UPDATE: After attending Fiona’s Masterclass, this is the story I’m currently giving all my attention. Read on to find out the storyline as it currently stands.

Rosie centres on a young woman in 1660 England. Isabella, our leading lady, is the daughter of a merchant and the mother figure to her younger siblings. While entertaining the children one day, she sings a rhyming game and ends up in 1347 England, prior to the outbreak of the Black Death. With the horrifying knowledge of what is about to happen, she sets about saving as many people as she can with the help of Will, a local blacksmith. What ensues is a time of dazzling highs and terrifying lows as the Black Death sweeps through Europe and Isabella discovers what it means to be a woman.
